Anyone else noticing the shift to 'lower-cost' geos?

Is anyone else feeling the pressure lately? I’ve been with Workday for a few years now, and the recent internal comms feel super vague. My manager keeps dancing around the topic of headcount, but the writing is on the wall when I look at the recent job postings. It seems like everything is being backfilled in lower-cost regions rather than keeping the teams intact here. I’m starting to get that 'here we go again' anxiety that I felt right before the last round of cuts. Does anyone have actual visibility on whether this is a quiet reduction in force or if they’re just trying to pivot the engineering structure? My 1-on-1s feel more like interrogations about 'impact' lately, and honestly, it’s exhausting. If they are planning another round, I’d rather know now than have it hanging over my head for the next three months.

It's definitely not just you. The trend of shifting headcount to cheaper regions is the open secret right now. Most of my team has noticed that any 'growth' is happening entirely offshore while domestic teams are just being hollowed out through attrition. Management keeps acting like it's a strategic realignment, but we all know it’s just about padding the margins. If you're feeling anxious, trust your gut and start dusting off your resume. It’s better to be ahead of the curve than waiting for that calendar invite for a 'quick sync.'

Honestly, I stopped listening to the internal comms a long time ago. They always use corporate speak to mask the same objective: headcount reduction in high-cost areas to please the shareholders. I’ve seen this play out at two other companies before, and Workday is following the exact same playbook. Don't waste your energy trying to read between the lines of those vague emails. Focus on your networking and quietly look for roles elsewhere. You aren't being paranoid; you're just paying attention to the business model.
