Heard similar rumblings, so your 'hypothetical' is probably on a lot of minds. Three years should get you at least 12 weeks, maybe up to 16. Push for the high end, especially if they're asking for a broad release. Outplacement is hit or miss, depends on the package level they offer. I'd definitely try to negotiate for it if it's not automatically included; a good service can make a huge difference in landing your next gig. Good luck with the 'planning'!
Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Workday's been pretty volatile lately, but assuming layoffs are a given seems premature. Severance is usually dependent on your level and years of service, but policies can change on a dime. Best bet is to brush up your resume *now*, regardless. Outplacement? Maybe. But the real severance details are in the documents they give you on the day, so focus on what you can control – your skills and networking.
