Anyone else getting weird vibes from the recent all-hands?

Is it just me, or did the tone shift significantly at the last all-hands? They kept hammering on 'efficiency' and 'streamlining operations' for the third month in a row. Every time leadership mentions that, my heart rate spikes. The rumor mill is absolutely churning in our Slack channels, and people are starting to get nervous about the lack of concrete growth targets for Q4. I’ve been here for three years and I’ve never felt this level of low-key anxiety in the office—or rather, on the virtual floor. Some of the senior engineers are already polishing their resumes 'just in case,' which is never a great sign. Has anyone heard anything specific about department-level cuts? I feel like we’re waiting for the other shoe to drop, and the constant ambiguity is honestly worse than just ripping the band-aid off. I love the product, but this 'everything is fine' narrative feels incredibly forced right now.

I felt the exact same thing. It’s definitely not just you. That 'efficiency' buzzword has become code for impending layoffs at almost every tech company lately, and Zoom is no exception. Management loves using vague, corporate-speak to keep people on edge without actually addressing the elephant in the room. Honestly, I’ve started updating my resume this weekend just to be safe. It’s better to be prepared than caught off guard when they finally decide to pull the plug on entire departments.

Honestly, the vibe has been off for a while. It feels like they are trying to manage the narrative before the Q4 numbers drop. When leadership stops talking about innovation and expansion, and starts fixating on 'streamlining,' it usually means the golden era of high growth is officially over. Everyone in my department is keeping their head down and eyes on the exits. Don't ignore your gut feeling—the anxiety you’re feeling is a direct response to the lack of transparency coming from the top right now.
