Quiet hiring or quiet firing? The current state of WBA

Every time I check the internal portal, there’s another 'restructuring' initiative that ends up just being a nice way to say our teams are being spread thinner than ever. I’m currently doing the work of two people because my department had two vacancies go 'frozen' indefinitely. It’s obviously not a hiring freeze, it’s a strategic push to get us to quit so they don't have to pay severance. The workload has become completely unsustainable, and the lack of transparency from corporate leadership is insulting at this point. I have friends in other retail sectors who have already gone through the inevitable layoffs, and the pattern looks exactly like what we are seeing here. We’re being starved of resources while being told to 'do more with less.' At this point, I’d almost prefer a formal layoff announcement so I can actually plan my next move rather than this slow-burn anxiety. Anyone else feeling like they’re just waiting for the other shoe to drop?

Anyone else getting weird vibes from leadership lately?

Is it just me, or does the messaging coming down from the top feel incredibly ominous lately? We keep hearing about 'operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources' every single quarter, but it feels like the walls are closing in. I’ve been with WBA for over five years, and the store morale is at an all-time low. I’m starting to see more managers spending hours behind closed office doors, and the rumor mill at my district is spinning out of control. It feels like they are prepping for a massive structural shift, but they won't just rip the bandage off. Everyone is terrified that the next town hall is going to be the one where they announce a headcount reduction. Has anyone heard anything concrete, or are we all just collectively spiraling until the next earnings call? I’m starting to update my resume just in case, but I honestly have no idea if I should be worried about my specific branch or if it’s just the corporate side that’s on the chopping block.
