Is the 'hiring freeze' actually a layoff in disguise?

So, we were told there’s a soft hiring freeze for non-clinical roles, and while the company line is that it’s just for cost management, the mood on the floor is pretty tense. I’ve noticed a few seats in my department have been empty for weeks with no word on backfills, which usually isn't how we operate. Are we just slowly downsizing through attrition, or is a formal layoff notification coming? I’ve been through a few of these cycles at previous firms, and the pattern usually starts with the 'hiring freeze' before the mass invites go out on a Thursday morning. If anyone has intel on whether we’re heading for a broader RIF or if leadership is just tightening the belt for the fiscal year-end, I’d appreciate a heads-up. It’s draining coming into work every day wondering if the next email in my inbox is going to be an 'all-hands' meeting invite regarding structural changes. Just want to be prepared if I need to start job hunting.

Anyone else hearing whispers about Q3 restructuring?

Is it just me, or has the vibe in the corporate office shifted significantly over the last month? I’ve been with Tenet for a few years now, and usually, the communication flow is pretty consistent, but lately, everything feels oddly locked down. I’ve heard rumors from a couple of people in finance about potential 'efficiency initiatives' coming down the pipeline before the end of the quarter. It’s hard to tell if this is just standard corporate paranoia or if there’s actual smoke here. We’ve seen other major players in the healthcare space trim their administrative headcount recently, and I’m wondering if we’re next on the chopping block. My manager has been extremely vague during our last few 1:1s, almost like they’re reading from a script. Has anyone else noticed an uptick in internal meetings that don't seem to have a clear agenda, or am I just reading too much into the current market climate? Trying to figure out if I should start polishing the resume this weekend or if I’m just psyching myself out.
